Sail Through the Semester with these Stress Reduction Techniques
Challenges are abound in college, especially with the start of the semester. Simple and effective techniques for stress reduction include the following:
- Walking daily for 30 - 40 minutes is very effective for restoring balance to the mind and body.
- Sports such as tennis and ping pong bring in a terrific mind-body connection to the exercise. One has to continually compute the speed of the ball coming at you and then how to strike the ball to hit the target location.
- Listening to relaxing music (we like classical or Hawaiian music) offers relief from stress.
A unique technique to reduce stress is the Transcendental Meditation® program. This technique quiets the mind and also relaxes the body. The rest gained in the TM® is significantly deeper than the rest gained in sleep.
The TM program is practiced twice daily for 20 minutes and it has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, enhance clarity of mind & creativity, increases our happiness and feeling of well-being.
After practicing the technique, you feel like you have had a mental bath - feeling more rested, fresh and ready to tackle your studies with a clearer mind. The Transcendental Meditation Club at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, offers group meditations and knowledge meetings about the growth of consciousness.
