The Warehouse: Small Venue With a Whole Lot of Heart

by Kathleen Anderson

Everyone is all too familiar with the famous Waikiki strip, but Hawaii’s new nightlife hotspot falls just outside of Waikiki. The Warehouse, a small venue with a whole lot of heart, is attracting guests with its bumping techno and intense light shows. This past weekend, the Warehouse hosted “Energy”, and though the dance floor was small, DJ Jaeguri, ATM, Onethree, Trancis, EP, and ERRRick kept the vibe going all night.

Over the past few years, the rave scene in Hawai’i has exploded, bringing together guests of all ages, styles, and tastes. What sets a rave apart from the stereotypical nightclubs found in Waikiki is the atmosphere. There’s a sense of unity at the Warehouse that is absent from other venues. People of all genders, races, ages, and styles can be found dancing and conversing without all of the hostility that clouds the air in Waikiki.

The Warehouse, formally the Shop, started off small, but even as they grew, moved to a new venue, and attracted more and more people, they managed to keep the family atmosphere intact. People are known on a first name basis and they surprisingly welcome any and all new comers, even giving them nicknames, or “rave names” as they’re called. Overall, everyone’s just looking to have a good time.

It doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or you 98th time, for one night at least, you can really let loose and enjoy the experience. With weekly events such as “Energy”, it’s no wonder that Hawaii’s youth has been moving outside of Waikiki and inside of the Warehouse.
