June 25, 11:30am - 1:30pm
Hawai‘i Community Foundation, 1164 Bishop Street, Conference Room, 16th floor
“Energy Justice” seeks to identify and respond to the problems of energy access faced by nearly one-third of the world’s population currently relying on biomass-based fire to meet all their energy needs. The lack of access to modern sustainable energy technologies results in disease from indoor air pollution, black soot that drives climate change, and vulnerability to a changing climate, drought, and rising seas.
Dr. Guruswamy argues that energy is a prerequisite to sustainable development and to addressing issues of poverty, hunger, gender equality, public health, environmental protection, and climate change mitigation.
Lakshman Guruswamy, professor of International Environmental Law at the University of Colorado, is one of the world's recognized experts in International Environmental Law. Dr. Guruswamy is director of the Center for Energy & Environmental Security (CEES), an ambitious interdisciplinary project that seeks to develop practical solutions for moving international society toward a global sustainable energy future.
Lunch will be provided.
