Ka Lamakua welcomes submissions of literature, music, art, cultural criticism, and various forms of reviews from current University of Hawai‘i undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and community members. Don't be shy...

Issue Schedule
Fall 2010 and Spring 2011: Effective September 1, 2010 - Every other Wednesday
If you would like to submit your work for a particular issue, please send it to kalamakua.org@gmail.com by 5pm on the Friday before the issue releases. If it is time-specific, please make sure you include a note in the body of the email.
General Guidelines
1. Submitters include current graduate or undergraduate students, faculty, or alumni of the UH system, as well as community members interested in sharing their story.
If you are a local artist and would like to have your work featured, please contact us for an interview at kalamakua.org@gmail.com.
2. Work should be submitted electronically to kalamakua.org@gmail.com and should indicate your submission's genre in the subject line of the email.
3. Please include your name and contact information in the e-mail. We do not accept anonymous submissions. In addition, please submit a short (no longer than one paragraph) self-profile and a small picture of yourself to be featured with your work.
4. If you are submitting a piece to Ka Leo or another publication, please let us know. It is the artist's responsibility to ensure proper copyright permissions are held.
FICTION & POETRY: Please submit no more than one manuscript with a maximum length of 5,000 words per submission. If your work exceeds this length, writers may submit multiple installments upon editors' approval.
NON-FICTION: Please submit no more than 5,000 words. Biographies and creative nonfiction essays are welcome.
VISUAL ART: Image files should be in high-res .JPEG format. Gallery reviews and artist interviews are welcome.
MUSIC: Musicians, if you wish us to host samples of your work, please submit demos as .mp3 files, with a brief summary of who you are and what your music is like. Reviews for concerts and albums as well as artist interviews are welcome.
CUISINE: Recipes and reviews of local restaurants welcome. If you submit a recipe, make sure you include a photographs of the cooking process and/or dish.
STAGE: Reviews of stage productions or interviews with playwrights, cast, etc are welcome.
CULTURE: Reviews and coverage of creative and/or political events are acceptable.
EVENTS: Listing of upcoming events, please note time specific nature and submit accordingly.
