Nancie Yang

batboygirlNancie Yang may not have the approval of her parents, but she has a sweet way with animalistic subject matter (see:batpeople). She is working out of Pennsylvania and trying to hustle her work via etsy.com. Only 23; Nancie is in love and creating beautiful things

How did you begin creating work?

i think once i started being in shitty relationships. thats when i started to use those emotions to draw perverted images and depressed monsters. its a healthy outlet for me, since i never really get the chance to say what i really want to say.

Are you pretentous enough to call yourself a starving artist?

no and yes. no because i dont look like im starving. and yes because i do need money to produce more art. but im not selling any art at the moment anyway

Have you had any formal training in art (what was it, if any)

none, i went to art school for a year and i hated it. i didnt like being told how to draw and i didnt really value other peoples opinions at the time. i was really focused on how i can get the fuck out of the classroom.

What animal do you most want to pluck from the wild and keep?

BATS!!! i admired my oldest brother while growing up. he loved watching batman and he was obsessed over dark gothlike charactors. i started to find beauty in scary dark creatures too. as a teen, i remember fantasizing about being taken away by vampires and being in ecstasy with them. i think if i had a bat, that will be the closet thing to my fantasy.

Are you on any medication?

not yet.

Who inspires you to keep producing work?

the biggest inspiration right now would probably be my boyfriend. he's always so motivating and when he angers me i can always use that rage to create great art. haha.. kidding. we dont see eachother a lot, but when we do we always try to spend quality time drawing and being creative together. its arousing having someone that enjoys art like i enjoy art, and probably that fact that i like him too helps.

Has your art ever gotten you laid?

girls dont need art to help them get penetrated.

If you weren't showing your work, what do you think you'd be doing?

having conversations with sick people while holding one cheek with one hand and wiping poop between their crack with the other. seriously.

What is your favorite combination of two colors?

probably brown and red.

Do you go through any certain processes while trying to produce your work?

sometimes i put my music on repeat. i keep it on repeat until im finished with the drawing. it keeps my emotions still.

If you had to get a tattoo at gunpoint, what would it be?

probably a monster. maybe a orange furry one with three blue eyes. id like him to be a little pudgy. with a brown nose and light green fangs. hed be a green leaf eating monster.

Had you always planned on being an artist [or had you other hopes]?

once i did, i wanted to get into graphic design. because teachers were telling me that computers was the way to the future. they probably are, but i think its a load of crap. im finishing my degree in nursing. hopefully i can be a traveling nurse and draw on planes and visit africa and ride big animals and draw on dirt with african children. im obsessed with africa for some weird reason.

Do you think you have to suffer for your art?

well its been a secret in my house that i draw monsters, blood, male organs and pornography. because my family is conservative christians, so when my mom went to my room, and accidently stumbled upon my framed art pieces that i had just showed at a gallery. she decided to throw them into the trashcan. i couldnt reserve any. but it wont happen again, because i moved out.
